Radio Zamaneh is reporting that Ataollah Rezvani, a 52-year Baha’i and social activist from Iran, was killed in the port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday. After being kidnapped, he was found shot in the head. Rezvani was a student of mechanical engineering at the University of Science and Technology before he was expelled from the school during the Cultural Revolution.

His death comes after a local Friday prayer leader allegedly made inflammatory remarks calling for increased vigilance over Baha’is in the city. A member of Rezvani’s family reportedly announced his killing over the radio, saying that Rezvani had received several threats against his life and family from intelligence officials very recently.

Just this April, another Baha’i from Bandar Abbas, Babak Zeynali, was arrested after officials raided and searched his home.
