Mr. Ibn Rushd's blog is the kind of statement that I have always expected from enlightened Egyptians. Mr. Rushd goes beyond the specific horrific action of some misguided and provoked villagers and addresses the larger problem of dealing with "the Others."
More and more people throughout the world are coming to the realization that the whole idea of "the Other" is indeed anathema to being a fair-minded human and worthy of the name. For far too long, politicians, and sadly a cast of clergy from various religions, have used this deadly weapon of pitting one people against another to their own advantage.
Baha'u'llah emphatically advises humanity: Ye are the fruits of one tree and the leaves of one branch. Hence, it is definitely time for all members of the human family to abandon the defunct exploitative beliefs such as "we vs them," "we the sacred vs they the profane." It is definitely time to tear down the decaying walls of separation and build bridges to connect our totality of the human family. It is only through a united effort that we can overcome the myriad of problems currently besetting mankind and working to make the earth a reflection of heaven, as we have been promised.
