Hours before a belated celebration to mark International Human Rights Day, policemen and security agents raided the offices of Human Rights Defenders Center (a watchdog led by Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi).

According to Narges Mohammedi, deputy head of the watchdog, agents failed to produce a warrant, claiming they weren’t obliged to as they were dressed in police uniforms.

Shirin Ebadi is an outspoken critic of the Iranian government and its bleak human rights record. While Iranian media has frequently made Ebadi a subject for their attacks, the situation only worsened after Ebadi’s decision to represent the 7 detained Baha’i leaders in court.
