Dear Friends,
I am a Baha’i from an Arab background from Israel. My comment to this article is, first and most of all, thanks and gratitude. I do not think, however, that one can compare the suffering of people. The Palestinians have their challenge, and the Iranian Baha’is have theirs. Palestinians act the way they do because they are angry and resource less and this is the result of the last six hundred years of their history. The Jews act the way they act because they are scared as the result of the last two thousand years of their history. If you want to know the chemistry of fear and anger, look at Israel and Palestine. The sad reality of this land is that there are no peace makers on either side.
The Bahai’s in Iran, however, are suffering, not as a result of their history, but as a result of both the history of the world in the last two hundred years, or more, and most importantly, for the sake of the future of humanity forever.
It happened with me quite often that when I tell someone about Baha’u’llah and His teachings, they say it is nice but it is a fantasy, or a utopia or similar comments. The Baha’is of Iran, however, is the living proof that Baha’u’llah is the messenger of God for our time.
Moreover, and most importantly, the Baha’is of Iran and their response to their oppressors is the living and real example of peace making. This is in a world where people are increasingly forgetting that they are humans before they are Iranian, or Arab, or Jews, or Western, or Eastern. Therefore, the Baha’is of Iran is the only example on this earth, and the only chance for humanity to look and learn how peace is possible, and how it is not a utopia or a fantasy, but a reality achievable by our human capacity. The Baha’is of Iran are the only hope to recover our humanity for the future of our world, and the world of our children and their children.
If the Baha’is of Iran did not suffer, how can the world of humanity learn that the world can be cured from its spiritual illnesses, and that peace and prosperity are a reality of our future?
